Volunteer with us

Each day volunteers contribute their time and skills, working in a range of positions across our organisation.

Their inspiring generosity helps Cam Sight to manage costs and provide a broader range of services to local people who are blind or have low vision. By volunteering you can gain new skills and confidence, put your time and skills into projects and make friends while enjoying the sense of reward that comes from making a difference.

How to become a volunteer

We will arrange an interview to discuss what volunteer opportunities are available that match your interests, skills, and availability. After completing the above, we ask all our volunteers to provide two suitable references and to undertake an enhanced DBS check. As a new volunteer, you will receive an induction with full training and ongoing support and advice to help you with the role and to really make a difference to the people we support.

“Thank you for giving me the opportunity to help at the centre, for guiding me along the way and for welcoming me during my time in Cambridge. The experience at Cam Sight was invaluable to me as I have learnt a lot from it.” – Volunteer at our Cambridge office

Volunteering opportunities

Transport drivers

Are you able to spare some time to help drive? Many of our members would like to attend our various events and activities, but are restricted because of a lack of transport.  Would you have time, when needed, to collect someone and take them to an event?

Befrienders

Do you have some spare time and would like to visit someone at home for a cuppa and a chat? Perhaps you could assist someone with their post or accompany them to the shops? We would love to hear from you if you’re interested in joining our befriending team.
