We are wishing our team of runners taking part in the TTP Cambridge Half Marathon this Sunday, 3rd March, a massive good luck, ahead of the race, which will see thousands of runners taking to the streets of Cambridge in the annual event.

We have a team from local restaurant chain Cambscuisine, along with local resident John Dawson, from Landbeach, who is taking part in the his first ever half marathon at the age of 73! 

John, commented: “I took up running during lockdown in order to keep fit and improve my mental health. Since then, I have completed over 100 5km parkruns and about 10 formal 10km runs. At 73 I am about to undertake my first half marathon!”

John decided to raise money for CamSight as he saw firsthand the struggles people can face when they are diagnosed with a visual impairment. 

“I chose CamSight as my Dad had a lot of visual impairment in his later years so I have some understanding of how difficult this can be. I want to raise money for a local visually impaired charity and cannot wait for race day. "

John’s fundraising currently stands at £1350 for CamSight, any donation, whether big or small, will make a difference to the charity who supports those living with sight loss. 

Dawn Preston, CamSight Head of Servcies said: “It is truly inspirational to hear John’s challenge, taking on a half marathon at 73 is extremely impressive. We are all behind him and can’t thank John enough, and all our runners for dedicating their time to raise vital funds for our charity.”

Local restaurant chain, Cambscuisine, have 10 employees running for CamSight. 

Julia Hul, Operations Manager for Cambscuisine, said: “We recently hosted a ‘Dine in the Dark’ event for CamSight at the Three Horseshoes Madingley and heard about the incredible work the charity does throughout the community. Hearing first hand from a service user who suddenly lost his sight overnight really hit home, and our staff members wanted to do more for the local sight loss charity. I am running along with nine other staff members, and we can’t wait for wait to hit the streets of Cambridge. Thanks to those who have already donated – there’s still time to make a donation or come down and cheer us on!” 

CamSight is dedicated to supporting individuals with visual impairments and providing essential services to local people. The charity works to make a difference and improve the lives of those living with sight loss by leading activities, monthly peer support groups, counselling sessions, and advice on technology and equipment to help enhance everyday lives.
